General: Alias... kinda Set the Alias flag and unset the Inited flag of an icon (which is not an alias). Do this with ResEdit when you get info. for the icon, whatever it may be. The result is a message about the problem, but I included this anyway because you will never see another message like it unless you deliberately do the above. Besides that I thought the “oops!” was kind of creative. Get Info Mistake "Get Info" on anything, turn on Balloon Help, and point to the icon's name. Then point to a place right below the very beginning of the name; you'll have to hunt for the exact spot. The Balloon help on the name reads "This is the system software version associated with this file"; but there's nothing there. Obviously this was a mistake. (This works in System 7.5.1 and early versions) There may be a dialog about an underlined name, in that spot, in earlier versions of Balloon help.   AppleShare PDS "Killer Rabbit" If you have ever used FileSharing on your Mac there should be an invisible icon on your desktop that looks like the one to the left of this. That icon is called "Killer Rabbit" and is from Monty Python. To get to it, simply open your hard drive with ResEdit and in the first window there should be something called Apple Share PDS. Open that and go to the ICON resource. Killer Rabbit was the development name for FileShare. Oh, and if you are running FileSharing the ic4 resource will be a small version of the rabbit, but when FileSharing is off, it changes to some picture that I don't understand. Finder Silicon Valley "Bungee"-System 7.5 Finder When holding down the option key while in the Finder go up to what would normally be “About This Macintosh...” in the Apple Menu. Instead it will say “About The Finder...”. Click on that and you will see a picture; after a while it will give a list of credits at the bottom. If the finder is past version 7.0, the creation date of the invincible “Desktop Folder” is May 13, 1991 or later, it will have credits for all of those who created the Finder from the Lisa on. If Balloon Help is turned on it says "Displays a dialog with the original Finder picture." The picture is of Silicon Valley. It is the original picture from System 1.0. By holding down Command-Option you will see a wacky cursor. An earlier Finder name was Furnishings 2000 which was a defunct Bay Area furniture store.   System Resources In the Strs Resource of the System open the ID's below to see what Jim Reeks thinks of Apple hardware. I'm scared to see what's in his kitchen. -6583: Apple Sound Chip hardware specific support. Controls the hardware interrupt and calls up the sound component chain to get audio data for the ASC. Jim Reekes calls this the spatula. -16569: Awacs Sound Chip hardware specific support. Controls the hardware interrupt and calls up the sound component chain to get audio data for the AWACS. Jim Reekes calls this the spatula. -6580: This is glue between the sound component chain and the sound manager. It gets more audio data when more is requested. Jim Reekes calls this the fridge.
